What things do you always refuse to spend money on regardless of desire? I’ll go first. I cannot justify spending hundreds of dollars every few weeks to get fake nails on my fingers and maintained.

I understand why women want their nails kept, but that is way too much money and time, for that matter. After someone polled the men of Reddit asking what they refused to spend cash on, here are the top-voted responses.

1. Subscription for Heated Seats

One man explained that if you need to pay a subscription to get these features, they already exist in the vehicle. “You just need to hack it.” Several other men agreed that paying a monthly subscription fee for luxuries in a car is absurd. One noted that heated seats are a function of many cars without a subscription.

2. Microtransactions in Video Games

Did you know that people are paying genuine money for video game skin? For example, some pay $20 to wear a unique hat, have flags, or paint their guns for their first-person shooter avatar. One man explained that he agreed while also believing it’s wild, knowing gamers have spent over $1000 on video game skins.

3. Tipping Twitch Streamers

Many men confessed that they would never subscribe to any Twitch streamer garnering more than 500 concurrent viewers. One clarified, “I hear this. Aside from my free Prime subscription, I wouldn’t join anyone’s channel over a certain number of followers.

It blows my mind how much streamers make off of subscribers and tips. People drop hundreds to watch someone play games for a couple of hours. It’s not even a returning investment, and you can still watch for FREE.”

4. Trash Bags

One man explained that he refused to buy trash bags when he was ultra-cheap. Money was tight, so he was brutally honest with how he spent his money. “How does it make sense to buy something that you throw away? Just used the bags from getting groceries.”

5. Cable Televisions

Wait? Is anyone still paying for cable in 2023? One man shared that it’s been over thirty-five years since he has paid for television. “Of course, I still buy hardware to get TV, but I am not paying The Man.” I’ve never heard a cable company referred to as the man.

6. Starbucks Coffee

Many men do not understand why people buy coffee out when they can make their own at home. One suggested maybe he’s uncultured, but he has never found Starbucks or any other coffee significantly better than a drip coffee at home. “And it’s so, so much cheaper.”

7. Car Detailing

Another expense men aren’t footing the bill on is expensive car detailing. One shared that they polished and waxed their car a few times and liked the results. But one time, he decided to take it to a car wash location to see if they could do a better job. “$130 later, and I think it ended worse than I would’ve done.”

8. Food Delivery Services

Food delivery apps, including Uber Eats and Door Dash, aren’t getting a free pass with this group of men. However, several suggested that if the restaurant has a delivery service, they consider it. However, many would instead pick it up at the store location for a lot fewer fees.

9. Oil Changes

One man lamented, “It isn’t worth my time to change my oil. Whenever someone gives me that awful excuse, I mention it is far cheaper. I can change my car’s oil way quicker than it takes to make an appointment, drive to the service center, check in, sit there for 15 minutes while it gets done, check out, and then go home. So admit you are too lazy; that’s a valid enough excuse not to do it yourself.”

10. Premium Products

Besides razors, many men refuse to spend money on premium products or “fancy versions.” One clarified, “Fifty bucks for a shirt with a horsey on it? Nope, same shirt at Walmart for ten bucks. Twenty-dollar laundry soap? No thanks, five-dollar store brand works just fine.”

11. Furniture

Additionally, several men refuse to spend money on furniture. Many explained building their furniture, while one confessed they made a desk, table, bed frame, shelves, and coat rack. Next, they have plans to build a workout bench. Several men agreed with the sentiment, “My La-Z-Boy is the only piece of furniture I own not built by me.”

12. Lottery Tickets

Finally, men volunteered that lottery tickets were a massive waste of money, and they would not purchase them. “I know that’s how you never win. But I can’t justify a weekly or daily quick pick or losing 20 bucks gambling it on a scratch-off game. No judgment; it’s just not my thing.”

What do you think? Did the men of Reddit get this right, or did you buy up everything on this list? This article is inspired by the internet and does not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of Wealthy Nickel.
