1. Remote IT Engineer
Although there are online meetings and support calls, remote IT engineers don’t have to bump into people at the office or maintain small talk with their colleagues. They can clock out after work with no emotional toll.
2. Medical Billing and Coding
Once certified, the pay for this kind of work is good. On top of that, this role does not require patient interaction whatsoever. Most of the work requirements include reviewing clinical documentation and putting together appeals.
3. Accountant
Working as an accountant or bookkeeper often has excellent pay and low human interaction, perfect for introverts.
4. Security Guard at a Data Center
This suggestion is perfect, as most interactions are business-centered. Someone also pointed out that “the people that walk through are all introverted tech [workers] who just want to get their job done.”
5. Truck Driver
Truck drivers don’t need to interact with others too much and spend most of their time on the road alone. They can choose whether to play music the whole journey or sit silently without considering anyone else.
6. Water Treatment Plant
One person who works in a residential water treatment plant said they get paid to run tests on water and enter the results. They work alone and often have time to themselves during their work day. The job requires a high school diploma and a clean background screen.
7. Accounts Receivable
Working in Accounts receivable is an introvert-friendly profession, consisting of posting incoming payments to the respective accounts without much human interaction.
8. Industry Lab Worker
Industry lab workers don’t usually need to deal with clients as that’s often the duty of management’s job. Although they interact with their colleagues, they spend most of their time focusing on their work.
9. Warehouse Inventory
One “inventory guy” said that he has to ensure each location receives the correct amount of inventory. With “630 000 square feet and six levels of racks,” he’s kept pretty busy and only speaks to people if he wants to.
10. Farmer
Farmers can spend days or weeks tending to their crops or livestock without talking to another person. Although some farmers have to liaise with their staff, it’s mostly an introvert-friendly job.
11. Night-Time Security
One security guard worked between 6 pm and 5 am and had to do a patrol every hour on the hour. He never needed to talk to anyone and spent his free time watching movies.
12. Freelance Writer
Freelance writers spend most of their time typing away at their keyboards. They commonly communicate with employers/ clients via email, so they don’t spend too much time interacting with others.
13. Dog Walker
One dog walker shared that she only speaks to her clients on first meeting them. After that, she spends most of her time with the dogs and not having to talk to people.
14. Designer
Website designers get to solve problems, challenge themselves, be creative, and see the outcome of their labor without interacting too much with others.
15. Programmer
